Dr. Gilya Hodos is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM), through the Music Teachers National Association, and has also served as the President for the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in Piano Performance, her Master of Music (MM) degree in Collaborative Arts from the University of Southern California, and her Bachelor of Music (BM) degree from the Eastman School of Music in Piano Performance.
Currently on the faculty at the State University of Pennsylvania, Abington, where she teaches courses in Piano, World Music, Western Music, and Music Theory, Dr. Hodos frequently serves as a judge and adjudicator in the Philadelphia area. A sought after lecturer, she has presented pre-concert lectures for the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Music Teachers National Association, as well as a number of Pennsylvania Music Teachers Local Associations among others. In addition, Dr. Hodos serves as the Artistic Director for The Dean's Concert Series at Thomas Jefferson University, the Music Director for both the Bala Cynwyd Library Concert Series, and the Music Common Hour Series at Penn State Abington.
An avid performer, Dr. Hodos has concertized throughout the United States, including appearances at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Bruno Walter Theatre, Merkin Concert Hall, Chicago Cultural Center, Joslyn Art Museum, and Gretna Music Festival, with performances broadcast live on WNYC-FM in New York, KIOS-FM in Omaha, as well as on National Public Radio.
