Pianist Gilya Hodos has concertized extensively both as a soloist and collaborative artist in Israel, Germany, Australia, and throughout the United States. Dr. Hodos has been described as playing “with brilliant virtuosity and unabashed fun … ” (Strings) and as having “a sumptuousness of sound … a powerful presence … ” (Sightlines).
An avid musical collaborator, she has appeared throughout the United States including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Bruno Walter Theatre, Merkin Concert Hall, Chicago Cultural Center, Joslyn Art Museum, and Gretna Music Festival, with performances broadcast live on WNYC-FM in New York, KIOS-FM in Omaha, as well as on National Public Radio.
A proponent of new music, she has given the world premiere performances of several works including Five Poems of Sylvia Plath by Howard Boatwright; Kenneth Lieberson’s Millenium, for soprano and piano; and Vivienne Olive’s Liebeslied, for cello and piano. A member of the Merion Trio, she performs regularly in the Philadelphia area.
Dr. Hodos received her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in Piano Performance at The Graduate Center of The City University of New York, her Master of Music (MM) degree in Accompanying from the University of Southern California, and her Bachelor of Music (BM) degree in Piano Performance from the Eastman School of Music.
